Veg Momos Recipe – How to Make Steamed & Fried Momos at Home

Veg Momos are soft and delicious dumplings filled with a spicy vegetable mixture and cooked by steaming or frying. Popular in India, Nepal, and Tibet, these momos are perfect as snacks or party appetizers. Serve them with spicy red chutney for an authentic taste.

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • Water (as needed)

For the Filling

  • 1 cup cabbage, finely chopped

  • ½ cup carrot, grated

  • ½ cup capsicum, finely chopped

  • ¼ cup spring onions

  • 1 tsp ginger, grated

  • 1 tsp garlic, minced

  • 1–2 tbsp soy sauce

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp oil

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Combine flour and salt in a bowl.

  2. Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough.

  3. Rest the dough for 15–20 minutes.

Step 2: Make the Filling

  1. Heat oil in a pan.

  2. Add ginger and garlic; sauté for 1 minute.

  3. Add cabbage, carrot, capsicum, and spring onions.

  4. Stir fry on high flame for 3–4 minutes.

  5. Add soy sauce, pepper, and salt.

  6. Mix well and let it cool completely.

Step 3: Shape the Momos

  1. Roll the dough into small circles (3–4 inches).

  2. Add 1 spoonful of filling in the center.

  3. Fold and pleat the edges to seal properly.

Step 4: Cook the Momos

Steamed Momos

  1. Place momos in a steamer tray.

  2. Steam for 10–12 minutes until the dough becomes shiny and non-sticky.

Fried Momos

  1. Heat oil in a pan.

  2. Fry the momos on medium flame until golden and crispy.

Serving Suggestion
