Jackfruit (Kathal) Masala | Meat-Style Homemade Veg Curry
Introduction
Jackfruit Masala, also known as Kathal Masala, is often called the “vegetarian meat curry” because of its texture. Raw jackfruit absorbs spices beautifully, making it one of the most satisfying plant-based curries.
This North Indian-style curry is bold, aromatic, and perfect for special lunches.
Ingredients

500g raw jackfruit (cleaned & cubed)

2 onions (finely chopped)

2 tomatoes (pureed)
-
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
-
1 tsp cumin seeds
-
1 tsp turmeric
-
1 tsp red chili powder
-
1 tsp coriander powder
-
1 tsp garam masala
-
2 tbsp mustard oil
-
Salt to taste

Cooking Method

Boil jackfruit pieces with salt and turmeric until slightly tender.

Heat mustard oil and add cumin seeds.

Add onions and cook until golden brown.

Add ginger-garlic paste and tomato puree. Cook until oil separates.

Add spices and mix well.

Add boiled jackfruit and cook covered for 15 minutes.

Finish with garam masala and fresh coriander.
